Rocky Regional Council digs its new pipeline - get it?
Thursday, 03 April 2008
The first stage of construction of the pipeline from Rockhampton to Yeppoon commenced late last year with work being undertaken on the first underground road crossing near the University.
This is the first of nine road crossings required for the pipeline. Rockhampton Regional Council Water Group Manager, Mr Neil Hanschen said although work unfortunately had to stop early in the year due to heavy rainfall, work had recently recommenced.
“Commuter traffic between Rockhampton and Yeppoon will not be affected while this work is undertaken,” Mr Hanschen said.
“Stockpiles of pipes and fittings are noticeable along the Rockhampton Road ready for the laying of the pipeline which is planned to commence on schedule in early April,” he said. The Australian Government’s Water Smart Australia program is contributing $16.4 million and the Queensland State Government $20 million towards funding the project.
“Though the project is under new management due to amalgamation, residents can be assured the project remains on target for completion by August 2009,” Mr Hanschen said.
Tenders are currently being invited for the construction of a pump station on Yaamba Road opposite the University, and close in early May.
Tender documents can be obtained from the Customer Service Centre, Rockhampton Regional Council, Yeppoon Office, 70 Anzac Parade.
