Photo: Perfume movie poster "Perfume" by Patrick Suskind became one of the best gothic novels of its time. And after the Walter Reid viewed a special presentation of the film at their Rocky Flix night, the movie seemed to continue the splendid experience which is unique to gothic fiction. Like my promise to you in the CQ extra’s last issue, this is a movie that you just can’t miss.

“Perfume” is an interesting story about Jean Baptiste Grenouille’s acute sense of smell which begins to entice his obsession to create the ultimate perfume. His obsession leads him into a hunt to capture and preserve the scent of women. Only to find in the end that what he captured is the essence of love and innocence.

You’ll never watch a movie like this one in a while. This movie persuades you to sympathise with a murder, fell sensual over the human flesh, and begin to see the beauty in all humans. A little hint to where Suskind leads the story, its traditionally gothic and therefore there are no happy endings.
